Quneitra Halves Building License Fees in 14 Border Villages

Quneitra – 12 October 2026 – CIP

Quneitra Governorate, in cooperation with the Syrian Engineers Syndicate, has cut building license fees by 50% for areas of up to 100 square metres in 14 villages and farms adjacent to the ceasefire line with the Golan.

The decision came under a memorandum of understanding signed by Quneitra Governor Ghassan Ghanem Ahmad and Syrian Engineers Syndicate head Malek Haj Ali, pursuant to Branch Council Decision No. 15 issued on 30 September 2026.

Villages covered by the cut

• Saida al-Hanut • al-Razaniyah • Abu Midrah • al-Mushaydah • al-Rafid • al-Eshah • al-Asbah • Kudnah • Bariqah • Bir Ajam • al-Hamidiyah • al-Hurriyah • Jubata al-Khashab • Hadar

Why this decision?

• The fee for licensing a 100 sqm building had reached 60,000 new Syrian pounds, according to the source • Some transaction fees exceeded 10 million old Syrian pounds, depending on the license type • The cut aims to ease the financial burden on residents and strengthen their stability in the border areas amid difficult living conditions

Calls to widen the scope

The decision was welcomed, alongside popular calls to extend the cut to all villages and towns of the governorate, clarify the criteria used to select the covered villages, and reconsider the scope.
